Knowing the RSB standard

RSB – Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials, simplicity with recognizecworld imento

A sigla RSB (Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials – Roundtable on sustainable biomaterials in a free translation) is a global organization of independent multistakeholders driving the development of a circular economy on a global scale based on sustainable solutions, standard certification and collaborative partnerships.

RSB has the premise of providing solutions and tools that act to mitigate the risks that involve the business. Thus contributing to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (United Nations SDG).

The standard Roudtable on Sustainable Biomatariais is considered one of the most credible and reliable standards on a global scale. Serves the European and Japanese market, in sustainable biomaterials products, biofuels and biomass production.

RSB serves numerous markets of the most diverse possible, highlighting aviation, transport and land transport the textile and fiber manufacturing industry. In addition to the energy industry and producer of chemicals and polymers in sustainable performance.

The pillars of the pattern

The RSB Standard is based on 12 sustainability principles.  These criteria were developed to ensure that the main environmental and social issues surrounding the use of fuels and products made from raw materials are addressed. ” bio-based” and advanced.

You 12 principles are:

  1. Compliance with legal requirements
  2. Planning and continuous improvement
  3. Monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions
  4. human and labor rights
  5. rural and social development
  6. Local food safety
  7. Conservationism
  8. Solo
  9. Water
  10. Air quality
  11. Use and creation of technologies
  12. Land regularization

Consistent with the fundamentals of standardization, RSB has 5 types of certifications, being able to be "remodeled" specifically to the type of business it will serve. Furthermore, has Adaptations and versions applied to the voluntary module.

  1. The global certification of RSB fuels: This certification is intended for biomass producers, fuels, merchants, processors and transporters from all regions of the world. Except those that aim to serve the European market, this being a specific certification in RSB RED Eu. references
  2. RSB RED EU: Aimed at those who establish a business relationship with the European Union. Compliance with the requirements of the EU Renewable Energy Directive is recognized by the European Commission.
  3. RSB certification for global products:  This certification is intended for biomass producers, fuels, merchants, processors and transporters from all regions of the world.
  4. RSB certification for small groups of farmers: Created to support farmers who have dimensions equal to or smaller than 75 hectares. Enables access to third-party certification, fostering the demonstration of compliance with sustainability criteria. Such groups can supply biomass in the RSB standard to any bio-based processor.
  5. Japan Fit Certification: Intended for producers, processors and traders working with biomass under the tariff feed system (FIT). Including vegetable oils and bioproducts that are destined to manufacture energy for Japan.

Brazil together with the RSB

Brazil is a major exporter of raw biomaterials for numerous sectors, from energy to textile. Consequently, plays a big role in matters of meeting sustainable requirements for those who buy and sell them.

Brazil is in charge of evaluating the main routes for the production of alternative routes for sustainable aviation fuels (PURE) from waste, diversified raw materials and multi-vegetables. Furthermore, it is expected that the supply chain develops causing the socioeconomic growth of small producers, cooperatives is exponential and lasting.

Meeting the RSB standard requires some adaptations and advances in socio-environmental issues by organizations and producers, but of extreme necessity and urgency for the current moment, including all actors involved in the logistics chain of products that involve carbon, gas emissions and many other relevant environmental aspects

Thinking about that, in the month of november, RSB's official platform will promote an online event with lectures and workshops involving all the most important topics for continuous improvement and awareness of its standardization. To learn more about the timeline and the RSB you can access here.
