Tesla and his batteries, the beginning of innovation

In day 30 of April, Tesla unveiled its battery line at the California factory. Best known as an electric car manufacturer, the company intends to enter the energy market once and for all.

Geared towards homes and businesses, the new line of batteries is lithium ion, it has a modern design and can be installed on the wall..

Far beyond a beautiful design. Tesla bets high on energy efficiency. an excellent bet.
Far beyond a beautiful design. Tesla bets high on energy efficiency. an excellent bet.

According to the founder and president of the company, Elon Musk, this will be “a fundamental transformation in how energy is distributed across the planet”.

The battery is designed to capture and store up to 10 kWh of energy generated by solar panels or wind turbines. Since reserves can be used when sunlight is poor, during blackouts, or at peak times, when electricity costs are highest.

Tesla introduces Powerwall

A menor Powerwall, how the battery was named, have 130 x 68 cm, small enough to hang in a garage or an outside wall. Musk stated that up to eight batteries can be stacked in a house.

During the event, Powerpack was also presented, a battery of 100 kWh that will help factories or large warehouses manage solar and wind energy or send energy to the grid during peak hours.

According to the president of Tesla, about two billion Powerpacks could store enough electricity to power everyone on the planet. "It might seem like a crazy number, but this is within the conditions of humanity to do", he said.

Batteries will initially be developed at Tesla's California plant, more from 2017 production will be transferred to the company's “gigafactory” in Nevada.

Marketing at profitable prices

Tesla has already opened battery sales, whose first units should be delivered in August. The price of the most basic model, from 7 kWh (kilowatt hour), is US$ 3.000, while the battery of 10 kWh will be sold for US$ 3.500. Installation and solar panel costs are not included.

let's imagine in the near future: energy self-sufficiency(!) through these batteries and various other means of generating clean energy. It is possible to imagine unimaginable changes to human life.

We can only hope that innovation advances, do not stop. let alone backtrack. A masterstroke from Tesla? in short term? sim. Long-term? We hope that the results are the best, independent of the sector, the gains will be for everyone.
