UN invites Brazilian universities to participate in initiatives with academic impact

The United Nations Department of Public Information invites universities and other institutions involved in higher education and knowledge production in Brazil to join the Academic Impact initiative (AN Academic Impact, UNAI).

It is an association with the United Nations and participation in a knowledge sharing network, research and solutions based on inter and multidisciplinary issues that dialogue with UN values, as represented in the UNAI principles.

UNAI is aimed at higher education institutions that are accredited by the government agency responsible for supervising education in the country. Participation in the initiative is also open to research institutions and think tanks that carry out scientific and political research and whose work is published in specialized journals or other forums reviewed by experts.

The initiative does not demand payments from institutions that wish to become members, but they must demonstrate their support by holding events and activities or by preparing publications on at least one of the ten principles of the initiative.. Only one activity per year is required to maintain the title of member of the Academic Impactco initiative.

Membership through UNAI is not available for UN System simulations (ModelUN, MUN), NGOs or non-profit organizations — for these cases, interested parties should access Education Outreach (in the case of UN System simulations) e DPI-NGO Relations (for Non-Governmental Organizations) for more information.

The Academic Impact aims to stimulate the production and dissemination of knowledge, by building a network of scientists, researchers, students and teachers who are already and/or wish to engage with the dilemmas and challenges faced by the United Nations in their daily lives.

In this sense, the affiliated institutions commit to produce knowledge, promote events, carry out activities that dialogue with the following principles:

  2. Capacity Building: the commitment to build capacity in higher education systems around the world.;
  3. Education for all: the commitment to provide an educational opportunity for all people., regardless of your gender, breed, religion or ethnicity;
  4. Global Citizenship: the commitment to encourage global citizenship through education.;
  5. Access to Higher Education: the commitment to providing an opportunity for each individual to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve higher education;
  6. Human rights: the commitment to human rights, between them, freedom of research, of opinion and expression;
  7. Intercultural Dialogue: the commitment to promote dialogue, intercultural understanding and the disappearance of intolerance through education;
  8. Peace and Conflict Resolution: the commitment to promote peace and conflict resolution through education;
  9. Sustainability: the commitment to promote sustainability through education;
  10. The Charter of the United Nations: Commitment to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter.

The work of these institutions is vital to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, as they serve as incubators for new ideas, inventions and solutions to the many global challenges we face.
