Nature installs 1.800 m² of solar panels at its headquarters

Natura announced the completion of the project it installed 1.800 m² of state-of-the-art solar energy panels in one of the company's headquarters buildings in Cajamar, Metropolitan region of Sao Paulo. Organic photovoltaic film technology (or OPV, acronym for Organic Photovoltaic), from the mining company Sunew, was chosen for its superior efficiency and the least impact on the environment., in addition to the innovative design of the films, that have 15 millimeters thick and are produced from organic materials, non-toxic and recyclable. The installation, you use or total 1.580 panels is the world's largest of its kind so far..

"In addition to seeking energy efficiency, Natura is producing clean energy. The OPV technology has the least impact possible, dialogues with our values and reflects our commitment to sustainability, mainly in the fight against climate change", says Josie Peressinoto Romero, Vice President of Operations and Logistics at Natura.

It is estimated that the energy generated by the panels in the building called NAN (Natura Learning Center) contribute to avoiding the annual issuance of 37 tons of CO2e — the equivalent of the consumption of 459 residences in Brazil in a month.

The use of solar energy contributes to the reduction pillar of Natura's Carbon Neutral Program. Released over a decade ago, it aims to reduce and neutralize greenhouse gas emissions (GEE) arising from its activities and throughout its value chain.

A Sunew states that, in a year, the project will reach 73.4 MWh of generated energy - which corresponds to energy production up to 40% higher than expected in installations of the same power consisting of traditional solar panels. This energy is enough to supply twice all the lighting in the building and the 160 working positions.

O CEO of Sunew, James Alves, explains that the efficiency of OPV grows with the increase in external temperature, making it ideal for areas exposed to strong solar radiation, regardless of position towards the sun, like the roof of the NAN building. According to the company, the material can be applied to any surface, from glass facades to vehicles and street furniture. “Organic photovoltaic film is third-generation solar cell technology, developed through a fully sustainable production chain, with low energy demand. It is the most sustainable alternative existing at the moment, with the lowest carbon emission among the forms of solar energy generation", complete the executive.

Nature's Neutral Carbon Program

Launched in 2007, Natura's Carbon Neutral Program was the company's first public commitment to neutralize its emissions, in addition to mitigating its impacts on climate change. For emissions you still can't avoid, Natura contracts compensation projects that generate climate benefits through a collaborative platform supported by Instituto Ekos Brasil and in partnership with Itaú Unibanco, B3 and Renner Stores.
