Industrial parks offer the opportunity to address the three dimensions of sustainable development: social equity, economic growth and environmental protection, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS), particularly the ODS number 9, which provides for the construction of resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and innovation.
in the last three decades, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNITED) has actively contributed to sustained improvements in productivity in industries and industrial parks, implementing pilot projects and providing strategic policy advisory services.
Viable industrial parks in Peru not only positively impact the country's productive capacity, but they also have the potential to strongly contribute to overall national socioeconomic development and, no future, for the socio-economic development of the Latin American region as a whole.
In this context, to UNITED, the Ministry of Production of Peru (PRODUCE) and the National Association of Industries (SNI) of Peru jointly promote an international conference on “Industrial Parks for Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development”, that will occur from 11 a 12 June in Lima.
The conference is being organized under the Program for Partnership with the Country (PCP), which was implemented by PRODUCE and UNIDO at the beginning of 2018 with the objective of accelerating inclusive and sustainable industrial development and building a partnership between actors led by the ministry.
The event will be attended by the Director General of UNIDO, Li Yong, in addition to representatives from Asian countries, Africa and Latin America, from academia and the public and private sectors.
"It is our conviction that a successful implementation of industrial policy has the potential to increase the competitiveness of new industrial sectors in the economy, while enabling the restructuring of existing sectors and companies", said Li.
“Industrial parks can help countries meet the challenge of inclusive and sustainable development through enhanced collaboration”, he said.
The conference will be an opportunity to present a wide range of international experiences on different aspects of industrial parks, in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and discuss the future of the industry in Latin America.
"The implementation of industrial parks in Lima and in the main cities of the country can be an interesting tool for the sustainable growth of Peruvian industry and for the diversification of its production", said Ricardo Marquez, President of the National Society of Industries (SNI) do Peru.
