Chile launches largest fleet of buses 100% Latin American electric

last thursday (13) december 2018, the Chilean government held the ceremony to hand over the 100 BYD K9FE electric buses in Santiago, not Chile. The event also marked the arrival of the largest bus fleet 100% Electrics in Latin America, driving the revolution of public transport electrification in the country.

BYD's local partner, Enel, delivered the fleet to the Metbus bus operator. You 100 K9FE buses will serve the most important areas of Santiago. These buses are equipped with the latest BYD battery technology., with a single charge covering more than 250 kilometers.

The President of Chile, Sebastian Piñera, proudly stated that this is the largest bus fleet 100% and that this new “transport of the third millennium” will improve the quality of life of all Chileans. He also reiterated the serious warning of the former US president, Barack Obama, “We are the first generation to feel the effects of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it”.

BYD electric buses are already operating in other parts of Chile and their technology has passed the country's bus certification standards. BYD's branch in Chile was created in 2014 with the mission to promote the electric vehicle business across the country. in May of 2016, BYD launched its first electric bus for community services in Chile and, in may of 2017, BYD won the first purchase order for two buses 100% electric in the country.
