In day 31 March, the National Petroleum Agency, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) released individual decarbonization targets for fuel distributors within the scope of RenovaBio.
For 2026, the national target was established in 48,09 millions of CBIOs (Decarbonization Credits), reinforcing the continuity and relevance of the program as an instrument for reducing emissions in the transport sector.
The targets are distributed among companies according to their share of the fossil fuel market. In practice, This means that distributors with greater volume sold will have greater responsibility in acquiring CBIOs throughout the year.
CBIOs are environmental assets traded on an exchange and represent the reduction of one ton of CO₂ equivalent. Its acquisition is mandatory to achieve the goals, which maintains demand for credits and encourages the production of more efficient biofuels.
Disclosure of goals for 2026 brings predictability to the market and signals the consolidation of RenovaBio as a structuring policy for the energy transition in Brazil.
What changes with the goals of 2026?
- Reinforcement of demand for CBIOs in the market
- Greater pressure for efficiency and emissions reduction
- Continuity of a stable regulatory environment
- Opportunities for agro and bioenergy agents
