Environmental policy and sustainable development in the country

Recently, the environmental agenda gained attention due to the proposals of the president-elect to merge the Ministries of Environment and Agriculture. But, even before the elections, attentive to society's movements, the direction of the Ethos Conference 20 years in São Paulo, I brought Cristiane Mano, Executive Editor of Exame; Fabio Feldmann, consultant, environmentalist, founder of Fabio Feldmann Consultores; and Ricardo Abramovay, Professor at the Department of Economics at FEA and at the Institute of International Relations at USP to speak on the panel made possible by Natura, entitled: Political trends for sustainable development: environmental management and policy in election campaigns.

"I think it's important to reflect on what the sustainability and sustainable development agenda should be starting next year.. We need to innovate on this agenda, taking into account the crisis the country is going through", highlighted Feldmann.

Evaluating possible paths, Mano spoke about the potential of conservation units. “We recently saw an interesting study carried out by Conservation International and other NGOs looking at the potential revenue that could come from protected areas if there were an administration focused on economic development., be tourism, exploration of seeds or fishing, there is a lot of opportunity, but for some reason, this potential is not used https://www.ethos.org.br/categoria/noticias/o. Logo, in a country that is broken, this seems to me to be the only solution", observed the journalist.

The USP professor highlighted key points that must be observed. "If we want to change the way in which Brazil is currently inserted internationally, as a fundamentally exporting country of primary products – even if these are made competently -, and we want to embark on knowledge economies, of information and intelligence, we will have to take social and environmental issues seriously.. Today, Brazil is behind in terms of innovation and it is definitely not by destroying resources and ecosystems that we are going to make up for this delay. On the contrary, tolerance in the face of this destruction encourages economic agents to feel that it is more viable to develop their businesses along non-innovative paths. From a strategic point of view, this will be extremely important from January 2019", finished Abramovay. Environmental Policy Environmental Policy Environmental Policy
