biO3 is a consulting company that was born with the objective of offering solutions in the environment and sustainability guided by science and innovation, aiming to contribute to sustainable development and positively impact society. We operate in different areas, one of them being socio-environmental certifications.
Certifications are tools to communicate to stakeholders that the organization follows good practices, either to demonstrate its way of being internally in the organization or externally to society in general.
In this area, we operate in six main materials and products, being them:
- Biomaterials and Biofuels;
- Sugar cane and by-products;
- Soy and by-products;
- corn and by-products;
- Palm oil and by-products;
- Recyclable yarns and fabrics.
Standards
For each sector mentioned, we advise organizations on various international standards, highlighting:
- RSB standard: Biomaterials and Biofuels Sector and in particular the SAF (sustainable aviation fuel);
- Bonsucro Standard: Sugar cane and by-products;
- ISCC Standard: Biomaterials and Biofuels Sector, Soy and by-products, sugar cane and by-products and corn and by-products;
RSB (Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials – Round table on sustainable biomaterials in a free translation) is a global organization of independent multistakeholders driving the development of a circular economy on a global scale based on sustainable solutions, standard certification and collaborative partnerships. The RSB Standard is based on 12 sustainability principles. Such criteria were developed to ensure that the main environmental and social issues around the use of fuels and products made from “bio-based” and advanced raw materials are addressed.. The standard and its pillars are further explained in the dedicated RSB text, which can be accessed by link.
Bonsucro is the leading global sustainability platform and standard for sugarcane. The platform understands that learning and development are fundamental for an organization to develop in terms of sustainability / ESG. Thus, Bonsucro encourages its members and practitioners to participate in training on sustainability in sugarcane farming. During the last week of October 2022, Standard Production Training was carried out, Chain of Custody and Bonsucro Calculator with Colombo Agroindustrial, a Bonsucro deployment project. This was another work carried out by biO3, with representation of our director André Araújo. It is worth highlighting that there are a series of publications on our blog exposing information about the Bonsucro Production Standard and the main changes made to the version Standard 4.2 for the current version, the version 5.1. Access the first of this series of publications on here.
The purpose of the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is to contribute to the sustainable cultivation, processing and use of different types of biomass and its products. Consequently, certification contributes to the reduction of environmental impacts, a more efficient use of resources and a growing capacity for climate change adaptation and climate mitigation and resilience. Certification has two options, being ISCC EU and ISCC PLUS. The certification is better explained on the blog, accessing the link.
In addition to actively participating in advising organizations and employees on socio-environmental certifications, highlighting the three mentioned, we also work directly on new projects involving financing and assessments for socio-environmental issues – IFC – Equator Principles, in addition to the implementation and training of sustainable supply chains.
